The height of arrogance, countrywide...

I: Preachers across the country plan to endorse political candidates, a clear violation of Federal Law. Why do these religious leaders feel the need to do this? Possibly because they feel they are above the law. It's arrogance, plain and simple. As mentioned on CNN this morning, this ploy by preachers has led to trouble with the IRS in other recent elections, and hopefully will again in 2008.

2. Senator McCain still not planning on attending tonight's debate in Oxford, Mississippi. Incredble. Jon Stewart last night did a great job eviscerating the Senator on this issue. Does McCain think his time is so much more important than the nation's? Voters only have a month and a half left to decide, and many folks that I have spoken to in my time volunteering at the local Obama office are looking forward to seeing the two men discuss important issues face to face. Let the debate go on as planned!

3. Legendary film director Spike Lee's latest effort, Miracle At St. Anna, is fourty minutes too long and, oh by the way, just pretty bad. Joining Neil LaBute as a once great director who has clearly lost his way, Lee has characters who do and say thing that are either A) stupid B) completely implausible throughout this 160 m vanity project. Shot gloriously, as his movies always are, the director of several of the great American movies of the 80s and 90s bores his audience to stifled yawns. (Plot Spoiler Alert=) The one woman in the film with a decently fleshed out part winds up doing things that just don't make sense. She turns from a saint who cares about the only decent American soldier amongst a company of men lost behind enemy lines in WWII Italy into a tramp who carelessly and recklessly sleeps with the most reprehensible. Why did her character do something that had me thinking to myself, "This would never happen. Who wrote this stuff?" My, how the great have fallen.

4. Democratic VP candidate sometimes lets his mouth get away with saying things his brain knows to be untrue. It has happened again. Where is that Clinton woman when the Dems really need her? It is clear to me that that Senator McCain out maneuvered Senator Obama when Obama picked an experienced and respected Senator, Joe Biden of Delaware, to be his running mate. That allowed McCain to pick the hot chick, Governor Sarah Palin of the politically insignificant state of Alaska. If Obama had chosen Clinton, no way the GOP takes a chance on a woman, albeit a strikingly attractive one (that seems to be her main selling point with most conservatives). And Biden, as I mentioned, may have close to four decades of experience in the US Senate; he also has a history of making boneheaded statements he is later forced to apologize for.
