We'd like to thank those that made this post necessary...

Troy Brown.

Tom Brady, as always. -- Great quarterbacks are willing to gamble. And to risk a pick or three. The final score is all that matters.

Gaffney and Caldwell.

David Thomas. -- Those Texicans know how to find the pony, don't they?

The kickers. What can you say? Sauerbrun and Gostkowski were sensational.

The entire defense. -- Line, backers and d-backs. Made the big plays when they needed to be made. What a pick by Colvin. He deserved to get another 15 yards, but still a magical juggling act.

Dan Koppen and the whole offensive line. -- They kept "The Mouth That Snored" Merriman and the outstanding Luis Castillo quiet. Mr. "I Wear My Tank Top on National Television Interviews" was MIA except for a few plays. Saw him get destroyed by, we think, Matt Light once. Castillo is a hell of a player, though. And sure, so is Merriman. Need help with that offseason conditioning program, Shawne? You are pretty close to the border, aren't ya? And is there a better center in football than Koppen? It may not be a big thing, but we think his flexibility in being able to survey 360 degrees prior to the snap is a nice edge to have out of a 300 pounder.

The great, young Charger team, including Philip Rivers (quick release but does he have the arm to get to the next level?) the d-backs, whose closing speed and fly-to-the-ball attitude were great to watch, Marcus MacNeill (the next great Left Tackle?), and the one and only LaDainian Tomlinson (LT2?). Do not mess with that group, Charger management. If healthy, they'll win maybe 40 combined games in the next three years. Don't fuck it up and you may very well get San Diego's first title in a long goddamn time, if you count AFL championships. We do.

The officials, who did an A+ job in an A+ game. Can't remember a better refereed big game in any sport, and don't recall one miss: they got the first half Charger non-TD right, threw the flag on Florence after he took two steps towards Graham, who was only protecting himself, and didn't flag the Pats on Rivers beautiful dive at the end. Nice try, Philip, but no dice. Awesome work by that group. But maybe they could have called a "pick play" on the Bolts once or twice, though.

And simply wonderful work by the game's #1 announcing duo, Nantz and Simms. Calm and level headed in a pressure packed atmosphere, doing what broadcasters are supposed to do.

====================================

Does anyone know what Romeo and Damien are doing this weekend? They sure as shit aren't playing for history.

====================================

Marty Schottenheimer is one of the winningest coaches in NFL history. His Cleveland Browns teams of the 80's were one of the most lovable clubs ever put together. He won in KC. He won in DC. He's winning in SD. But he blew it asking for the replay after Troy Brown's strip. There was nothing to overturn. It was a clear cut play; Pats ball, first down. Did someone upstairs tell him to throw it? Doubtful. He just lost it. What did you want, Coach, a mulligan? A do-over? That last timeout was the difference in the game, possibly. Another play or two and their Pro Bowl kicker gets closer and doesn't have to hit it big, just straight. Wow. But still, Apt404 loves Marty Schottenheimer. How can you not root for this great coach?

====================================

Simply one of the greatest games we've ever seen. What a weekend, with the Saints marching on, the Bears knuckling through, and that other game, which was okay. They just shouldn't let mules on the field. Even if they can kick the shit out of the football.

Can we get a rule passed before next weekend? No mules named "Gus" can suit up for either team.

That just ain't fucking fair.
