A great man first as well as a legendary actor.

Paul Newman, one of America's most important actors and philathropists, has passed away at the age of 83. The NY Times has a lovely article paying tribute to the man. IMDb is, as always, an invaluable source for information. And the Newman's Own site has a touching video of an obviously aged and inform Newman expressing thanks to all of the people who have supported his many causes, especially the Hole in the Wall Gang summer camps. Mr. Newman's love of auto racing is well known, and here's the official Newman-Haas racing site.

My personal favorite film of Mr. Newman's is Slapshot, and I will certainly find time to see this painfully funny and insightful comedy in the coming weeks. It's worth a sixth or seventh look. And it was also my Dad's choice as funniest movie made by PN.
