Mota, Guillermo-4.61--3--3---na----54.2---11--.261-7.6---$3M---'73---Glad we dumped this dude..makes it all worthwhile, don't ya think?
------------------------------------
So Hanley is, let's face it, a superstar. Not in a couple of years, but now. Look at the numbers: 115 runs, 51 steals, .294 average with power (.837 OPS is awesome for a player who defends and runs the bases). Cla Meredith and Lyon were two of the best setup men in baseball. Anibal Sanchez threw a no hitter and pitched freakin' great for the Marlins. Dave Roberts was better than Coco for less money and had more games played. Josh Bard hit the damn cover off the ball. Bronson threw 240 innings (!) and gave up a .243 batting average against...holy crap. The homers allowed is a nothing stat, since Cincy's new stadium is a launching pad.
And old friend (we hardly knew ya) Freddy Sanchez......he did something pretty good, I think. We maybe could have found a spot for him at second.
And to show for a bunch of future All Stars (possibly), a workhorse #2 or 3 starter, choice of solid backups at C, and a potential Hall of Famer (hey, one year...who knows? but Hanley has the tools, the size, and the healthy arrogance)? Beckett, who for over $4M wasn't even a LEAGUE AVERAGE STARTER. It might have helped if he DID get injured: his ERA was over 5.00 just about the whole year. Mirabell? Red Sox management's desperation swap with San Diego was the single worst trade in baseball this year. The guy who was described in "Moneyball" as having a "plumber's build" may have had the worst numbers in baseball this year.
Lowell: average stats and a $9M salary. He belongs on the 2002 Mets. Wily Mo has tons of talent, but its scary how far he has to go. Do they give him 550 ABs next year and lose Nixon? It's going to happen, and I think Pena could be terrific, but he just scares me in a lot of ways.
Thank God we got rid of Mota. I always said that the key to all the deals was unloading $3M in deadweight.
Although Manny probably has that much in uncashed checks in his SUV glove compartment.
Man a total, unmitigated disaster. Has any team in the history of this great game given up so much young, cheap talent for completely overpriced mediocrity? I'm searching, and I can't think of anyone. The Marlins fire sale back a decade ago was just that: the owners dumped championship talent to SAVE money and sell the team, not add payroll, which the Sox did.

Well, that's just disgusting.
And why the hell is this loon smiling like she has done something to be proud of? I won't eat for a week.

4)
As I'm typing this up, "Do The Right Thing" is on HBO. Simply one of the great American films.
And whatever happened to the excellent John Turturro? IMDB says he's got some good looking stuff coming out.
Man, what was up with the "Frasier", "Mr. Deeds" "Collateral Damage", etc. stretch he had going there a few years back? What the hell was going on there? Glad to have you back, Mr. Turturro.
