More Pats: Caldwell, Watson & Miller, LLC
1)--- Biggest play for me last Sunday? Caldwell's near beheading by the Bengals safety in the third quarter down by the goal line.
There's a big difference between getting run over by a bus that you don't see coming, versus throwing a child out of harm's way THEN getting run over by a bus you see bearing down on you. Caldwell did the latter: he knew that Brady's throw led him into the middle; safety territory. And yet he stretched out and tried to make the play.
15 yards for headhunting. Next snap, Maroney makes a great run into the endzone. From 14-13, Pats stretch it to 21-13 and the Bengals begin to think about how they need to score two, maybe three times to win.
Hope Caldwell got a game ball or something. In a 38-13 game, Monday's headlines might not show that it was a battle to that point. Caldwell's play was key, methinks. Great job.
2)--- Will the Bengals d-backs and linebackers see big Daniel Graham in their nightmares for the rest of the season? My god, can the man block and get physical.
In my 40 years on the planet, I've never seen an opposing player be hammered into a full body cramp like the Bengal that tried to tackle Graham on his second half catch down deep in Bengal territory. Did anyone tell the B that it was 60 degrees and dry out? Cramp? I think maybe he just was knocked silly. Never saw an OFFENSIVE PLAYER do that to a defender before. Great job.
3)---- How about some respect for Josh Miller, who may be the best punter in the NFL. Not just because he averages 45+ yards gross, but he's also consistent and terrific at getting the ball downed inside the badguys 20. Great job.
Also....
Can we just agree that Phil Simms (and, okay, yes even Jim Nantz) should be the announcer for every televised sporting event? Mary Carillo and Mac can do the US Open, Dick Enberg is still outstanding, but Simms may be the best sports announcer going today. Always a pleasure to listen to him.
Bet he STILL wants to nail that fan what hit him with a snowball back in the Raider playoff game. You have to love announcers who yell at the fans DURING THE BROADCAST. Great damn job.
