NFL Lockout: The Average Player's Point of View
Would you be willing to go on strike for better wages, working conditions, health care, etc? Of course you would.
But would you be willing to walk that picket line for ten or fifteen years? You'd be crazy to do that.
============
If the average NFL player loses a year of their career, that is akin to the typical person losing a decade or more of their professional life. That's because the typical guy lasts three or four years in the league, then is cut unwillingly. The Brady's and the Manning's places in this whole shitstorm to me are irrelevant distractions. They, the superstars, will be fine if they never play another down, or should be anyway. The guys with the media clout and financial clout, the leadership and the wealthiest of NFL players, should right now be thinking about their brethren who can't fucking afford to miss a year. It's the special teamer, the backup linebacker, and of course the retired dudes who can't walk so good, who matter right now. Those dudes are the largest percentage of the union in terms of membership.
If Tom Brady and The Petulant One are involved in the union's decision making, I think that would be a bad thing. They just don't live like the typical NFLer, and might not even remember what that life is like. Its the Kevin Faulk's and Sebastian Vollmer's and Brian Hoyer's of the league whose paychecks and pensions are on the line.
